La Universidad, bullfight demo, and tapas!

Today started with another wonderful tour from our trusty guide, Inés. We went into the old University and began to understand what class was like hundreds of years ago.  We saw the library, classrooms that are no longer used, and Inés even told us about how the poor used to sit in the front row until just before the nobels arrived- to warm their seats!! The second half of the day was spent at Capea for some pool time, a bullfight demonstration, and delicious tapas.

Segovia y Ávila

This morning we left early for our Segovia and Ávila day trip. In Segovia we explored the Cathedral, the Alcazar (a castle where only the king and queen stayed), and of course the famous Acueductos.  From there we traveled to the beautiful walled city of Ávila nearby.  A true medieval town!

La Alberca

Sundays in Salamanca are typically a time to rest.  After we slept in a bit we took advantage of the empty streets this morning and took a guided tour of the new Cathedral.  Que preciosa!  Our guide, Ines, even told us a story about how people came to earn a degree.  They had to pay for a fiesta for the entire city, and sit in a guarded chair overnight.  Lucas was the lucky one to test out the chair in the old church.

In the afternoon we headed to a small town an hour outside of Salamanca called Alberca. We hiked down into the pueblo and, of course, had an ice cream!

Mavi and Luiza standing near the pulley system they used to paint and build the Cathedral.

Fuimos a las tiendas!

Today we walked around town searching for typical shops and describing what they sell. Then in the afternoon we heard from a local story teller and our students read the dialogue for "Lazarillo de Tormes"
Que divertido!!

La Oficina Turismo de Salamanca

Today we visited the tourism station in La Plaza Mayor. We discussed maps and how to get to certain destinations. On our way home we stopped for a picture by El Banco de Espana.  At "el kiosko" Emma ordered a strawberry licorice and it came on a plate!
